A distinctive, idyllic region

This cruise will include some fabulous navigation through 2 tunnels and a lift that replaces the work of 17 locks! Fantastic visits to a hilltop monastery, the city of Strasbourg, glass blowing, a day trip through the beautiful wine villages of the Alsace, where we have arranged a private tasting, the discovery of a micro brewery and the last water powered flour mill, plus on this trip we will be serving the wines from all the major wine producing areas of France.

Arrival and evening cruise

We will arrange a transfer from either Frankfurt or Strasbourg depending on your preference. The crew will be waiting to welcome you on board the Apres Tout for an amazing 6 night cruise on the Canal des Houilleres and the Canal de la Marne & Rhin. Following a Champagne reception and settling into your cabin, we are then casting off for your cruise on these unspoilt canals. A delicious four course dinner is served with wines to match, while you sit comfortably under our canopy on the teak deck under the stars, weather allowing.

Cruise to Ouxaxange. Visit a local beer producer and flour mill powered by a waterwheel

This morning while breakfast is served the barge continues her journey along the beautiful canal, surrounded by the Etangs (small lakes) of Stock & Oiseaux to a pretty county side mooring. During the afternoon our tour guide takes you to visit a local beer producer who explains the entire process of beer making and you will taste the beer of the week. We continue with the grain theme and visit the last remaining flour mill on the River Sarre.

Experience Saint Louis Arzviller Lift. Visit the glass blower & Saverne or take a walk along the old track of 17 locks

Continue this wonderful cruise though the most spectacular country side, passing through two tunnels towards the most unique boat lift in France. The drop is 150 feet and is a truly special experience and a real high light of this cruise. This unique lock allows us to glide effortlessly up or down the mountain side using a sophisticated system of weights and balances.

This afternoon there is a choice for those passengers to stay ‘local’ and enjoy an amazing walk along the old track of 17 locks, and discover the museum to explain how the lift replaced the 17 locks. Or visit Saverne for a historic walking tour. Plus, visit the glass showroom and demonstration room of Lehrer – a famous local glass producer.

We have arranged a private visit and wine tasting at Domaine Klipfel, they have a collection of bottles dating back to 1921 and are a 6 generation family enterprise. You will learn about wine and taste six different grape varieties. Afterwards we walk through the village to a local restaurant and enjoy a 3 course lunch.
