Caroline is a Corden Bleu trained chef with over 30 years experience of looking after her diners! The food is absolutely gourmet, starting with the fresh pastries and breads that arrive every morning for breakfast, then to the buffet style lunches with lots of fresh salads, terrines, quiches and tarts. Dinner is always plated – perfect portions with lots of fresh ingredients gathered from the local markets and then there is the cheese! There are more than 365 cheeses in France – we could serve a different one every day of the year and still have more to choose from – we have made it easy but choosing 22 of our absolute favourites – all AOC approved and delightful.
We have researched some of the best producers and have created a fabulous wine cellar on board – we have the big names of course – such as Montrachet, Nuits St George & Pommard – but also have discovered some smaller producers who make the most divine wine and we take huge pleasure in introducing you to these some hidden gems.
Our days are tailored to be fun, informative but also to be relaxed. The day usually starts with a cruise – locks open at 9 am and we are ready with ropes off – mornings tend to be relaxed – we pass through many locks – this is an ideal time to get on and off the boat – a lovely tow path follows the canal – so great opportunities for exercise, walking and cycling.
Mornings are relaxed with time to watch the scenery pass by from the beautiful 360° teak deck or perhaps a dip in the hot tub, or to take exercise walking, biking or jogging along the tow path – more adventurous passengers can explore the small villages along the route. Lunch whenever possible is served on the deck under the canopy and then in the afternoon a visit – this could be to Beaune to visit the medieval hospice and wine tasting in vaulted cellars, or perhaps to a truffle producer to walk with the dog while they search for these famous mushrooms. Every day is varied and fun! Returning to the boat for a refreshing cocktail and then sitting down to enjoy a 4 course dinner with exceptional wines and perhaps an after dinner drink under the stars.
